Swarovski has been illuminating the stage for the world’s most glamorous awards, the Oscars®, for the past one decade. For its 11th year in Oscars stage design, Swarovski once again collaborates with Tony and Emmy Award®-winning production designer Derek McLane. The highlights of this year’s design include a brand-new proscenium, the return of the beloved floating Oscars, a signature backdrop curtain and opera box covers.
The new proscenium will feature more than 45 million crystals with each piece constructed from octagonal tiles with a mix of crystal, metal, mirror and other materials to achieve its complex and beautiful shape. The spectacular floating Oscars will feature over 140,000 crystals, and the installation of an original backdrop curtain will shimmer with over 80,000 crystals. The theater’s opera boxes will be embellished with over 23,000 breathtaking Swarovski stones.
The 90th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood.
