A new type of eyewear being produced in Canada promises to stave off laser attacks.
Metamaterial Technologies Inc., based in Halifax, is starting commercial production of its metaAIR glasses, CTV News reports. The product expected to hit the market in a few months.
The eyewear is geared toward pilots, who can be temporarily blinded by laser beams.
CTV reports that with the glasses, "a laser scribing process changes the molecular structure of the photopolymer and creates a nanostructure that interacts destructively with light, causing laser light to refract off the plastic lens like a mirror."
Canada's federal government is investing $3 million in the technology.
