Adidas Eyewear Sport cycling glasses, perfect photochromic for fall

Xavier CADEAU

We tried to face the end of summer 2022 and the soft start of autumn with a pair of Adidas Eyewear Sport cycling glasses on our nose, with photochromic lenses. Regardless of the type of journey, we appreciate cycling glasses, to protect ourselves from the sun's rays, vicious gnats or mischievous branches. Yes, but what to do when the light dims? We do like photochromic lenses, we adapt.

Autumn in photochromic

Some find it sinister, others full of color; one thing is certain, very often it lacks brightness. She, of course, I want to talk about autumn. A transitional season between summer and winter, which is synonymous with rain, wind and dead leaves that are collected by the shovel.

" Autumn is a melancholic and graceful andante which admirably prepares the solemn adagio of winter " said George Sand. Did she wear photochromic glasses when she walked around the Nohant estate? It's unlikely. I did not go to Indre to investigate. I made do with numerous commutes and multiple road/gravel outings, including quite a few semi-night shifts at the end of summer to test these Adidas cycling glasses.

Adidas cycling glasses to face the fall

The helmet is a Kask Valegro (the polo, a Triban)

And I have to admit that I really appreciated the comfort of these Adidas Eyewear Sport photochromic glasses. The set is light. The frame is comfortable; support on the nose is good, even when it beats a little (the end of the branches is covered with rubber).

The design of the glasses is in line with current trends, with a fairly large format (but not too large) and a pointed lower part. The curve surrounds the face well, which ultimately offers a fairly large viewing surface, including laterally. We find the Adidas logo on the center of the lenses as well as on the temples. The ends of the temples can be deformed to fit your ears. The nose pads are also adjustable.

Autumn in photochromic

The contrast of the lenses is nice. Technically, photochromic lenses are designed to change their tint depending on the ambient light (category 1 to 3). The Vario Photochromic lenses of these Adidas cycling glasses adapt relatively quickly to variations in light; about twenty seconds. Convenient at the entrance to an undergrowth. I also used them during semi-night hikes, and I didn't feel the need to take them off after dark.

Sport or utility bike, light conditions can change quickly in the fall

This kind of glasses with photochromic lenses is also very practical in utilitarian use. As in nature, you are not safe in an urban environment to pass in a dark street, under a bridge or in a tunnel. Similarly, during this fall season, light conditions can quickly vary during your morning and evening journeys. And we don't teach you anything, the night is long. The day rises late and goes to bed early. As said above, what goes for my nocturnal gravel outings, goes for my utility trips. Even at night, the glasses do not interfere with vision.

Italian construction

These Adidas cycling glasses are made in Italy (see below). You can feel the build quality. The frame is robust and, for the moment, no scratches to deplore on the screen. There is a ventilation on the upper part, which will prevent condensation (fog inside the glasses). Note that on this pair of Adidas Sport cycling glasses, the lens can easily be changed. Just unclip the top part.

In terms of price, we are at the top of the range; equivalent to Oakley (or even a little more expensive). The pair of Adidas Eyevwear Sport cycling glasses (model SP0054) in classic solar lenses is exchanged for 179€. For Vario Photochromic lenses, you will have to offload 209€. Italian quality has a price. For more info and/or purchase, go to the official website .
