Since the 1970s, Bulgari’s design language has been defined by the avant-garde with its combination of precious gold with stainless steel.

With an experimental energy, distinct aesthetic and craftsmanship, the interplay of these materials for two of the brand’s signature collections merges the worlds of heritage and modernity.

Bulgari said in the quest to define its own rules, the merging of gold and steel is a continued expansion of the maison’s creative vocabulary as a high jeweler and of its continual search for new aesthetic languages. When steel made its entrance into Bulgari’s world of jewelry, the durable material was set against the nobility of gold — bringing the opposing materials into dialogue.

With state-of-the-art technical expertise and mastering of materials, this opened Bulgari up to the world of further exploring nontraditional jewelry materials. In the 1990s, porcelain and gold were used for the Chandra collection and the 2010s saw ceramic and gold iterations of the B.zero1.

Now the Italian maison is reviving a chapter in its storied history with a new collection of jewelry. The material fusion is unveiled for two new B.zero1 rings, a Tubogas jewelry set, high jewelry creations and, for watches, with the Serpenti Tubogas Studs capsule collection.

The B.zero1 collection’s two new rings in four-band and two-band versions feature a steel crafting and framing with yellow gold on the outer edges. The steel is a reinforcement of the ring’s architectural structure and draws from Rome’s ancient columns, while the gold exudes both warmth and definition.

The signature spiral silhouette for the ring captures the idea of infinite motion within a sculptural form. With their everyday wear, the rings are streamlined to showcase steel’s lightness and comfort — and their stackable design allows for layered wear for mixing-and-matching.

Tubogas presents a necklace and bracelet that fuse aesthetic avant-garde and jewelry design. With its flexible and seamless coil designs crafted in steel, yellow gold studs dot the surface for both depth and a refined contrast and a sense of fluidity. Inspired from gas pipes, the Tubogas collection is emblematic of Bulgari’s savoir-faire.

Honoring its legacy of mixing gold and steel, the maison created three high jewelry pieces, which Bulgari explained are “creations of extraordinary uniqueness and unparalleled rarity.” Crafted with the intent to celebrate the brand’s spirit, the necklaces are a tribute to the brand’s “art of daring” and material experimentation.

Bringing the gold and steel vision into horology, the Serpenti Tubogas Studs capsule collection translates the two materials into a structural timepiece. With the house code of the Serpenti with the flexible Tubogas bracelet, the watch is enriched with the Stud motif inspired by Bulgari’s jewelry identity. In a limited edition of four watches, the collection explores the tension between gold and steel with details including diamond stone dials and mother-of-pearl.

Bulgari’s revival of the Gold & Steel dialogue is far more than a nostalgic nod to its 1970s origins; it is a definitive statement on the future of luxury. By harmonizing the resilience of steel with the solar nobility of yellow gold, the maison proves that true innovation lies in the “art of daring.” This collection serves as a masterclass in balance, where the architectural weight of Rome’s history meets the fluid, fast-paced demands of contemporary life.

Through the sculptural spirals of the B.zero1 and the sinuous, solder-free mastery of the Tubogas, Bulgari continues to dismantle the traditional boundaries between utility and ornament. These pieces are not merely accessories but wearable icons of Italian genius — designed to be lived in, stacked and adapted to the individual. The inclusion of the Serpenti Tubogas Studs and exclusive High Jewelry creations further cements this material interplay as a cornerstone of the brand’s identity, elevating a once-radical experiment into a timeless hallmark of sophistication.

As these new creations arrive in boutiques this April, they carry with them a spirit of perpetual motion. Bulgari remains at the pinnacle of material experimentation because it refuses to settle for the expected, choosing instead to find beauty in the tension of opposites. In the world of Bulgari, gold provides the soul and steel provides the strength, resulting in a creative language that is as enduring as it is avant-garde.

The Return of Gold & Steel is not just a chapter in design history, it is a bold blueprint for the luxury of tomorrow, reaffirming that true icons never stand still; they evolve.
