A TIGHT CONNECTION: After the great creative director reset comes the brand-ambassador shuffle.
To wit: Julia Garner has been named a global ambassador of Loewe by its new creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, WWD has learned exclusively.
The American actress, perhaps best known for portraying Ruth Langmore in “Ozark,” was previously affiliated with Gucci.
McCollough and Hernandez said they felt an immediate connection with Garner, lauding her fearlessness in bringing characters to life on screen. “We admire those who dare to explore: Julia certainly has that ceaseless curiosity, and we are happy she can bring this to Loewe,” the designers said in a statement shared first with WWD.
Garner said she’s been a longtime fan of the design duo, who founded the Proenza Schouler label in New York in 2002, stepping down as creative directors there last year to take up the Loewe assignment.
“I’ve always admired their creative vision. It’s committed, almost absolute and certain, similar to the way an actor commits entirely to a role,” she said, describing their aesthetic as “radiant, modern femininity that feels both strong and instinctive.”
Garner recently completed production on the Netflix series “The Altruists,” also serving as executive producer under her production company Alma Margo. She will next star opposite Charlize Theron in “Tyrant,” written and directed by David Weil.
Garner has appeared in such diverse movies as “Weapons” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”She won a Golden Globe and three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for her work on “Ozark.” She also won laudits for “Inventing Anna” and “The Assistant.”
In her view, Loewe “celebrates individuality and allows space for exploration. I feel that same permission in my own career — to take risks, to choose complexity, to grow.”
In recent weeks, McCollough and Hernandez also brought on board Isla Johnston and Théodore Pellerin as brand ambassadors. They are scheduled to show their sophomore collection for Loewe on Friday.
