FENDI CHANNELS THE FREE SPIRIT: SPRING/SUMMER 2023

Take a dive into Fendi’s vestiary pool glimmering with psychedelia and adventure, as it explores a new take on the Fendi man in its latest campaign.

A signature of the Fendi man lies in his ability to traverse grandeur and simplicity with ease and fluidity. As its Spring/Summer 2023 collection debuts, Fendi shows us how to kick back in style with this exclusive.

Directed and shot in Rome by Nico Vascellari, the Italian fashion icon explores what constitutes the style of the contemporary gentleman through an urban lens. At first glance, the collection’s silhouettes and materials may seem familiar. However, a closer look will reveal that traditional menswear serves as a blueprint for deconstruction and evolution.

Bohemian in spirit, he extends his sense of adventure to his wardrobe with beaded daisy chains and terry toweling. Panels of fringe and tassels quiver as he embarks towards rediscovering the luxury of leisure.

This season, Fendi shifts its gaze to the elements for inspiration. Turning to a compass of Earth, sea, and sky, its color palette embraces luxurious indigo, ochre, putty, cornflower blue, silver grey, and an invigorating hue of melon. Knitwear, reminiscent of tie-dye, channels the inner hippie. One piece with a lightweight and oversized fit is a byword for its refreshing spin on luxury. At its core lies a faded hue of cornflower. Decadent shades of blue become increasingly deeper as it advances from the shoulders throughout its sleeves.

Taking its free spirit to new heights, inky abstractions evocative of Earth’s swirling weather patterns adorn thermographic jacquard coats. Mesmerizing graphics juxtaposed against bucolic cowhide motifs add a playful spin to its outerwear.

Logomania returns full force with shirts and hats drenched in the house’s insignia. Evocative of the rippling waves of the ocean, a blue and white shirt encases its wearer in a sublimely expansive composition. With its iconic logo distorted in languorous waves, Fendi explores a new take on a beloved classic.

Relaxed fits abound this season. A melange of pleated trousers and soft, ultralight chambray shorts with feathered hemlines imbue the collection with a toned-down take on sophistication. Boxy point-collared shirts bid farewell to the constraint of the work season and give way for their wearer to greet the summer in style and comfort. Denim, too, gets revamped with expansive silhouettes and five-pocket designs—perfect for any escapade. Establishing a striking contrast between harsh and smooth textures, it extends its luxury to the tactile sense.

Liberating the male form from the restrictive, ultra-tailored fits of the past, Fendi balances the gentlemen and the wanderer. A charcoal, double-breasted blazer with matching pleated shorts ingrains a dapper charm into the collection while embracing a contemporary edge. Topped off with Fendi O’Lock zips, dissected shoulders, and side vents, flexibility, and breathability are introduced to this season’s suiting.

That’s not all. Fendi launches a much-anticipated update to its baguette for those craving a full serving of vestiary carbs this season. Introducing an ultra-structured Fendi baguette in charcoal and cobalt blue, the Italian powerhouse kicks off the season with an update on a cult classic.

Eyewear, too, creates a spectacle with ovular shades decked out with rims of the house’s insignia and bulky square frames in contrasting acetate sporting its logo. Jewelry also taps into Fendi’s fervor for logos—this time with a dainty update. Lightweight and understated, necklaces become charming yet subtle avenues for adornment.

“It’s about a balance of decoration and simplicity,” reflects Silvia Venturini Fendi, “An ageless sense of freedom to play, as we rediscover the luxury of free time.”

A stylish spin on leisure wear poses a duality, balancing the Fendi man of the city with that of the countryside. As the Italian brand continues to liberate the male figure, the innovative spirit behind the eponymous brand persists in finding dynamic ways to intersect luxury and comfort.
