Kim Jones and the House of Fendi are heading to war – sartorially, that is. Inspired by Silvia Venturini Fendi’s daily uniform and equipped with gabardine trenches and utilitarian shirt jackets, Fendi’s foot soldiers are traversing the hyper-luxurious terrain to capture their legacy in their latest Autumn/Winter offering.
This collection is a celebration of extraordinary Italian elegance as seen from the new perspective of Artistic Director Kim Jones. Drawing upon the femininity and savoir-faire that have long defined the Fendi name, palette-cleansing neutrals, thigh-grazing hemlines, tall boots and a distinct sense of opulence characterise this heritage collection.
Conveying both usefulness and resourcefulness, Jones turned inward towards Fendi’s archives for inspiration. The wardrobes of the five Fendi sisters offered a foundational asset, alongside iconic motifs that have been recontextualised for a new era.
Most notably, the recognisable Karligraphy monogram has been reworked onto lust worthy leather boots and motifs from Jones’ very own Couture collection have been reprised through marbled silk dresses and delicate organza embroideries on jacquard knits.
Elsewhere, new accessories and silhouettes are utilised to mark this fresh chapter in Fendi’s history. The remarkable craftsmanship of the Fendi ateliers remains present throughout their latest offering.
Reflecting on the collection, Jones remarks “there’s a usefulness here, explored in a chic, timeless way. I’m taking the amazing, strong women who I both know and work with, and listening to their needs.”
“Fun isn’t always just about bright colours,” says Jones. “It can be about really luxurious self indulgence, which pleases the person wearing it more than anyone else.”
Fendi’s powerful dynasty has well and truly been cemented. Go forth and conquer.
