The very first print publication on the couture house, Givenchy Catwalk gives an in-depth look into the label’s collections from their 1952 debut to present day. Opening with an overarching history, authors Alexandre Samson and Anders Christian Madsen set the scene and provide context before jumping into a chronological look at nearly 180 collections.

A visual treat for both Givenchy enthusiasts and newbies alike, it is split into sections with text and catwalk photography that provide a comprehensive look at each designer’s influence and how they’ve drawn on the founder’s codes while bringing the house into the modern day. From Hubert de Givenchy’s 40 year reign to John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Julien Macdonald, Riccardo Tisci, Clare Waight Keller, and Matthew M. Williams, the Givenchy label has taken on a multitude of faces and identities. Now, for the first time ever, we can see them all in one place.

“This book is an opportunity to trace the creative development of the fashion house’s founder and his successors, to explore their early days, their triumphs, their doubts, their innovations,” explains Samson. “It is also an opportunity to examine the reactions they provoked at the time, and how these are echoed in our own. A total of almost 180 collections testifies to a level of inventiveness and luxury that may well surprise the general public. The heart of Givenchy beats with the pulse of the times, while maintaining a rare balance between commercial propositions and spectacular presentations.”

Givenchy Catwalk by Alexandre Samson and Anders Christian Madsen is out on November 16, 2023.
