NIGO’s KENZO continue to pave their way even further into the upper echelons of high-fashion as the Kenzo Takada-formed outfit unveil a ‘Varsity Jungle’ capsule for Spring 2023.
Having just recently unveiled the campaign imagery for their Spring/Summer 2023 collection as a whole, NIGO and KENZO have taken a side step with a fun-loving capsule collection, channeling the brand’s longstanding affection for animals with a collection that builds itself around KENZO’s iconic Tiger and Elephant motifs whilst celebrating the values of togetherness and closeness of families and crews. Shot by photographer Frank Lebon, the campaign imagery to encapsulate a sense of community as well as founder Kenzo Takada’s love for nature, with the collection boasting two distinct prints—the elephant and the tiger— both of which “pay tribute to Takada and his legacy.” For instance, the elephant, which is said to have the greatest memory of all animals, was Takada’s favourite animal, whilst the tiger is another animal that often inspired Takada and his work, being used way back in 1975 in the early days of KENZO.
Getting into the pieces themselves, the capsule is made up of a t-shirt, an embroidered jersey sweatshirt and a jersey cardigan, all of which are available in typical house colours of black, white, blue and pink as well as having either the tiger or elephant motif placed onto them. The standouts from the incoming range include a black tiger motif sweatshirt adorned with bold “KENZO” lettering, a blue elephant motif t-shirt, as well as a blue tracksuit co-ord adorned with minimalistic KENZO branding.
