LONDONStella McCartney’s latest beauty offering starts within.

The Alter-Care Supplement is the designer’s latest launch, stepping into the world of ingestibles, a somewhat unusual move for a designer skin care brand.

It has been in the works for two-and-a-half years and is totally clean.

“I’ve always been interested in the relationship between good nutrition and skin health, which is why I wanted to incorporate an edible skin supplement into my skin care range,” McCartney said in an interview.

“It took a while to create the perfect formula and to propose something different in the beauty industry. There aren’t that many brands, at least none that I’m aware of, that have created skin supplements using only vegan, 100 percent natural-origin ingredients and which are supported with strong clinical results,” she added.

Her latest product is also gluten and GMO-free. It is priced at 60 British pounds and sold at Space NK and stellamccartneybeauty.com.

The edible supplements include ingredients such as a patented complex called Ceramosides, which prevents collagen destruction and helps to protect against premature aging. It was then blended with vitamin E and Omega 3 derived from micro-algae alongside Omega 6 and 9 from evening primrose oil that helps provide the skin with fatty acids.

“As with everything I do, I wanted to create something that was natural and cruelty-free but didn’t compromise on results. After taking my Alter-Care Supplements for 30 days, the skin will see a 25 percent improvement in skin elasticity; wrinkles will appear 24 percent less visible and hydration will increase by 23 percent,” said McCartney, advising that when they’re taken alongside using the Alter-Care Serum the results are “intensified.”

Since launching her Stella skin care line just over a year ago, the designer has made sure to pass over her green credentials to the beauty arm of the business by incorporating more than 99 percent natural-origin, vegan ingredients and recyclable, refillable packaging.
