As the virtual world continues to grow and expand its influence, fashion has been quick to jump on the bandwagon. The past year alone has seen the launch of the first-ever Metaverse Fashion Week, the rise of virtual influencers and designers, endless talk of NFTs, as well as the likes of Burberry, Gucci and Stella McCartney releasing limited-edition virtual collections on Roblox.
It only makes sense, after all, that a luxury brand lover would want their impressive IRL wardrobe to be reflected on their avatar... So it's little surprise that the latest high-end brand to throw its hat in the virtual fashion ring is the ever-innovative Givenchy, with an exciting new collection that blends real-life and Web3 products for the first time.
(b).STROY x Givenchy
For SS23, Givenchy's creative director Matthew M. Williams has collaborated with Atlanta-born, New York-based underground label (b).STROY on a super-hypey, experimental streetwear capsule collection of both menswear and womenswear – with signature pieces being recreated in the virtual space as NFTs, too.
'(b).STROY captures the essence of the street, and Matthew's work for Givenchy epitomizes urban style with Parisian flair,' say (b).STROY co-founders Brick Owens and Dieter 'Du' Grams. 'For this collaboration, we wanted to merge our respective aesthetics and create an experience that goes beyond the collection itself.'
And go well beyond the (physical) collection they have, joining forces with experimental Web3 artist collective FELT Zine to create 'digital twins' for six pieces from the capsule. Think epic denim-covered biker boots, a patch-covered bomber jacket and a logo t-shirt, all set against bold animations and minted on Ethereum, available to purchase now – in strictly limited quantities. Owners of these NFTs will also gain exclusive access to Givenchy's upcoming Web3 program.
Those who still prefer the joys of physical fashion, however, can still purchase the Givenchy X (b).STROY capsule IRL. Those pieces, happily, are in far greater supply – though no less in-demand.
